Madison Talley is an architect and founding partner of tall architects, which was established initially as TALLstudio Architecture in 2014. As an outspoken proponent of design excellence and community involvement, her leadership has created an unwavering firm-wide design commitment to humanistic design. Madison is heavily involved as a creative director in every project the firm embarks upon. Her never-ending artistic curiosity combined with her love of material experimentation instills every project with an undeniable and unrepeatable zest.
Madison graduated from Mississippi State University’s College of Architecture, Art and Design with a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 2011. Upon graduation, she received the “Thesis Jurists’ Award”—which is regarded as the highest honor for a senior thesis project and is selected by a panel of invited architects and design critics. While in college, she interned for several award-winning architecture firms as well as Habitat for Humanity rebuilding homes on the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.
After graduation, Madison knew that she would not take the typical path of an architect. Instead, she chose to become a professional artist for an international lifestyle brand and work for a large architecture firm part-time. While her peers were busy learning the basics of how to draw buildings, she was constructing other-worldly buildings… and hot air balloons, and life size elephants, and tropical birds, and whimsical abstract art.
After three years of honing her three dimensional craft, Madison knew she was ready to become an architect, but on her terms. Along with her partner and husband, they created tall architects as a firm rooted in experimentation, pragmatism, and the creation of insightful buildings and atmospheres.
Madison is invited regularly to speak in public about all-things art and architecture based. She is also often asked to review architecture student work at universities nationwide.
Mark Talley is an architect and founding partner of tall architects, which was established initially as TALLstudio Architecture in 2014. His interests lie with crafting the big ideas, the bold moves, and the subtle detailing that encapsulates the essence of a well-designed idea, space, or building. Mark is strategically involved with every project the firm designs. As a consummate collaborator and thoughtful critic, Mark’s ethos centers on never settling for the first idea and pushing the boundaries to new and uncharted territories.
Mark graduated from Mississippi State University’s College of Architecture, Art and Design with a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 2010. For his thesis project, he received the Tau Sigma Delta Bronze Medal—which is selected by fellow students as the most creative and thought provoking thesis project. Mark has worked for several nationally recognized architecture firms, and honed his design and detailing skills while completing high end medical, municipal, and corporate architecture.
Upon the founding of tall architects, Mark was determined to complete work that was meaningful, thought provoking, and, above all, unique. He aims to strike the perfect, or sometimes intentionally imperfect, balance of theory and practicality. For Mark each project is a test of ability, will, and passion, and he revels in the challenge.
Mark is actively involved in both the architecture and local community via a multitude of boards and organizations. He is a regular critic at academic events and architecture schools nationwide and cites speaking in public as one of his all-time favorite activities.
When not behind the computer screen, sketching like a mad man, or out on a job site, he can be found reading philosophy, playing chess, or oil painting.
